Imagine the potential we could tap into when we start working with human nature, instead of against it.

Our Why

Somewhere along the way we started living and working predominantly from our heads, ignoring and overriding the intelligence of our bodies with detrimental effects on our individual and collective health, and the well-being of the planet. Having worked in various purpose-driven sectors ourselves, we have seen and experienced first-hand the costs of tirelessly working for a cause and how passion can easily transform into overwhelm, fatigue and burn-out. We believe that the world doesn’t just need more people willing to do good, we also need more people with the capacity to do so. Our mission is to offer wholesome learning journeys to changemakers that support their well-being and their ability to make a meaningful impact.

‘Madu’ in Egyptian and Nigerian Igbo language means ‘human being’. All organisations are a ‘house of Madu’: a house of human beings.

Our Courses

Join one of our signature courses and learn how to work with your human nature so you can tap into new skills and ways of being. This is for professionals who are ready to trust multiple channels of wisdom beyond cognitive intellect, and who want to show up from a place of deeper self-awareness and authenticity. The Somatic Compass series, our signature course on well-being and stress management, is now available.

Our Approach

1.

Experiential learning

Experience is the ultimate teacher, so we facilitate hands-on, immersive experiences that encourage active participation, spark curiosity, and invite creativity and self-discovery.

2.

Embodiment

Rooted in an unwavering belief that transformation starts from within, we guide participants in exploring somatic practices and deepening their understanding of themselves and others.

3.

Backed by neuroscience

We support you to be in the best possible state for learning by aligning our facilitation with key principles of neuroscience and leveraging the profound connection between mind and body.

4.

Trauma-informed

Trauma is part of our daily lives, whether we realise it or not. Understanding how dynamics in organisations can trigger or relieve people’s survival responses is helpful for anyone concerned with facilitating change and improving well-being.

Our Clients

"My team had an insightful workshop with House of Madu to recognise stress in our bodies and to learn regulation tools to calm the immediate tension from stress. It was really useful to reflect on what my body is experiencing rather than only the mind, in relation to stress. The workshop was very practical and tailored to our needs as a team, and we also experienced some bonding exercises to improve our connection and communication. Overall a very productive workshop, facilitated in a calm, clear, and innovative way."

– Oonagh Eastmond, Rutgers

“Tess and Alessandra are calm and confident trainers who possess a lot of knowledge when it comes to stress, well-being, embodiment and mindfulness. Both were able to handle questions well and respond to the diverse needs of the group.”

– Merel Pechtold, Fairspace

“The Somatic Compass course helped me discover and learn to cultivate my 'inner islands of safety', which I now go back to to find peace of mind during a stressful or busy day! The course is a good reminder that taking just a few minutes of time for yourself can change your mindset and help you overcome a challenge at work or in life."

– Djinda Gueye, Independent Consultant
